What assisted living at Augusta Pines includes

Assisted living is for older adults who need some help with daily routines, like bathing, dressing or medications, but want to stay as independent as they can. At Augusta Pines it includes:

  • A personalized care plan built around your parent’s needs
  • Medication management
  • Housekeeping
  • Chef-prepared meals at Taste Restaurant, buffet-style or with waiter service
  • The Mind • Body • Strength wellness program, with fitness classes every day
  • Classes, activities and social events

Private apartments come in different floor plans. Residents can bring their own furniture and mementos, and there’s an on-site salon and spa. What the monthly rate covers depends on the care plan, so ask for a written list when you visit.

Salize memory care at Augusta Pines

Salize is Avanti’s memory care program for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Avanti’s care model has four levels of care, and Salize is the highest. Every resident gets a customized care plan. The program centers on daily exercise, nutritious meals and activities that keep people involved, so residents can live with dignity and purpose.

Salize care partners are specially trained in dementia care. They help residents with grooming, bathing and dressing. A private bathroom gives each resident the freedom to do as much on their own as they can.

The living areas have high ceilings and big windows, so they get a lot of natural light. For time outside there’s a secure patio and the courtyard garden. The serenity room is set aside for meditation, reading and reflection. Days include fitness classes, arts and crafts, educational programs, brain-training games on tablets, and reading the morning paper with a care partner. Cleaning and laundry services are available.

You can also ease into it:

  • The Salize Transition Program introduces your parent to the community a little at a time, with short visits, social activities, classes and meals over several weeks to several months.
  • Short-term stays provide memory support for a few days or longer, so a family caregiver can rest, run errands or travel.

Cost and ways to pay

Augusta Pines doesn’t publish prices. Each resident’s cost depends on their care, and the main factors are:

  • Level of care. Avanti has four levels of care. More daily help generally means a higher monthly cost.
  • Assisted living or memory care. Memory care generally costs more than assisted living, since it involves more support.
  • Floor plan. Different apartments are priced differently.

Before you decide, ask what the monthly rate includes and what’s billed separately. It’s also fair to ask whether there’s a move-in fee and how care needs are reassessed over time.

Common ways families pay:

  • Personal resources: savings, retirement income or the sale of a home.
  • VA Aid and Attendance: a monthly amount added to a VA pension for qualified veterans and surviving spouses who need another person’s help with daily activities like bathing, feeding and dressing.
  • Long-term care insurance: most policies begin paying when someone needs help with two or more of six activities of daily living, or has a cognitive impairment, usually after an elimination period. Ask the insurer what the policy covers.
  • Medicare does not pay for long-term care.
